News from Adjourned AGM - 15 Nov 08

Coming Soon . . .

Sound Levels
Yes I know the subject is a bore, but not to those listeners with the bleeding ears. Sound Level restrictions are specific to the venue, so enquire with the manager as to what they are. Some bands don't get asked back to venues because they are too loud loud!

Please read the Amplified Music Venues Local Law 2006 for more info.

Insurance
In accordance with the Incorporated Associations Act, the management committee advises that this organization is in possession of a $10,000,000 public liability insurance policy with Marsh Pty Ltd. This insurance covers our members only at WMA sponsored events only - these events are limited to our Band Days, Acoustic Days and other special events as sanctioned by the WMA committee. The number of these events is limited to ensure that we are not overinsured.

Our insurance cover does NOT extend to WMA members and members bands playing at events which are not explicitly sponsored by WMA such as paid and non-paid gigs at pubs or parties etc. The Management Committee recommends that Members undertaking such activities take out their own insurance cover to protect their own interests. We recommend Marsh Pty Ltd to Members as a provider of such services.

WMA History
Warriors Music Association Incorporated (WMA) grew out of an initiative called the "Weekend Warriors" program. This program started in the United States and was introduced to Brisbane by Ellaways Music. Here, as in the US, there is a body of musicians who have been performers in a past life, or who have had the desire to perform, but had not taken the next step to actually doing it. The Weekend Warriors program provides a non-threatening, supportive environment to get these people playing live music for fun.

The success of the Weekend Warriors program left a lot of participants wanting more. They wanted to keep playing, and the WMA was formed to provide an way of doing so.

The Association started with a steering committee of people who had been throught the Weekend Warriors program, who identified the needs and objectives of the association. The steering committee worked to progress the concept to a point where the WMA Incorporated was finally created as a legal entity. The Steering Committee called a General Meeting, where the first Management Committee was elected.

WMA Inc. is a separate legal entity with no connection to the Weekend Warriors program, and no connection to any commercial organisation. The Association makes its own rules and manages its own affairs.

Currently, WMA Incorporated is a going concern and anyone who has an interest in playing live music for fun is welcome to become a member. The Committee and the members are managing the task of satisfying immediate needs, such as equipment, venues, organization and funds. The future looks promising. The Association is running regular events ie. monthly band days, monthly acoustic days, playing circuit opportunities, as well as participating in high profile special events eg. "Wintersun". Public awareness of the WMA is growing as we move ahead.
